Insights
As a company advisor at Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW), I served as the mentor/consultant to a group of high school students brought together to form a “company.” These students ran their “company,” competing against other “companies” in their industry. In between making management decisions and developing their advertising campaign, they heard amazing speakers and participated in other fun activities. All left with an increased understanding of business, and many with a newly found confidence and the belief that they too could be entrepreneurs.
PFEW taught the students about the American free enterprise system, but just as importantly, it taught them about life. They experienced the ups and downs, the triumphs and disappointments, the challenges that businesses and people face every day. Strangers at the beginning of the week quickly morphed into teammates and friends by the end of the week. PFEW was a truly rewarding and unique experience, and I am certain that all those involved would agree that it was definitely worth giving up a week of their summer.
