New United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania Board Chair Raymond Buehler Jr.

The board of directors of United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania elected Raymond W. Buehler, Jr. as the incoming Chair in a news release courtesy of the United Way of Southwestern PA.

“It’s very exciting to see Ray in the Board Chair seat and to welcome Stacy into the role of Vice Chair,” said Bobbi Watt Geer, President and CEO, United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania. “We’re very fortunate to have such committed leaders with a long history of supporting United Way. Each in their own way, they have contributed greatly to carrying out our mission, guiding our organization and supporting the community through many transitions. It’s fitting that the next chapter begins with them.”

More than a decade ago, Buehler’s journey with United Way began at Schneider Downs through his colleagues, whose encouragement inspired his advocacy for the cause. Buehler became a Tocqueville Society member in 2004 and served as co-chair in 2020. Buehler joined the Board of Directors in 2011 and has served four terms since then. And, he chaired the annual campaign in 2014.

Buehler’s passion for giving back to the community began as soon as he entered the workforce in 1975 at Schneider Downs, where he became a shareholder just six years later, President/CEO four years after that, and ascended to the role of Chairman in 2014. As he excelled in his professional career and was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential Practitioners by CPA Magazine, Buehler became an integral part of United Way’s leadership, which has helped him gain a unique perspective that combines his understanding of finances and meeting the community’s needs.

As Board Chair, Buehler will serve as the organization’s Chief Volunteer Officer. “I have always felt that United Way is the heartbeat of this city,” said Buehler. “I am excited to continue my  involvement in helping it thrive and succeed in its mission. United Way’s leadership has always struck me in a very personal way, and I am proud to find myself a part of it. I know the need is enormous, but resources are constrained. So I ask myself, ‘Where can you get your most effective use of dollars?’ I believe the answer is United Way.”
