It's all about the Experience

As a college student going into my fifth year to finish up my bachelors in accounting and masters in information security and assurance, I can assure you that my auditing internship at Schneider Downs has been the most valuable learning experience to date. Each day was a new adventure, talking with clients, performing tests for my team, and most importantly, understanding what goes into an audit.

I can’t thank Schneider Downs enough for my first taste of public accounting. The opportunities I’ve had these past few weeks have been more valuable than any other experience I’ve had in the past. Seeing what it’s like to work full time as an auditor has been amazing. As an intern, I was treated like a staff-level employee. And because of that, I had the opportunity to be a part of various real-life experiences in the accounting world. I think it’s great that as interns, we went through all the motions of auditing, because just hearing about it in class doesn’t do it justice. At times it was a little challenging, but definitely worth the experience. You have to actually be a part of it to understand and appreciate what all goes into each engagement.

Going back to Robert Morris University this fall, I will be so glad to have this internship under my belt. I do not think many college students get the opportunity to see what it’s truly like in their field before leaving school. But, I have. And now I will know what to expect when I go full time after I graduate next May. But maybe more importantly, I’ll know what it’s like to work at a place with great people. Everyone I’ve met during the course of this experience has been helpful and considerate. It must be hard trying to get your work done while teaching an intern. But at Schneider Downs, they were always there to help and guide me, no matter their title. I would just like to say thank you to everyone I came in contact with at Schneider Downs over the course of this adventure for the amazing opportunities I’ve been given.
