Charitable Giving: 2013 and Beyond

When: January 22, 2013 12:00AM

As we have seen in recent years, declining investment returns and cutbacks in government funding have resulted in increased pressure on an organization’s charitable giving program. It is more important than ever for a charitable organization to ensure that its procedures addressing charitable giving are in compliance with current tax laws, that it understands gift restrictions and the related financial and tax reporting implications of such restrictions, and has a working knowledge of planned giving opportunities. These concerns are heightened by current discussions in Washington, D.C. regarding the charitable contribution deduction and its role in tax reform.

Join us on January 22, 2013 for an extensive discussion pertaining to charitable giving that will include current developments and related compliance issues, including:

  • Proper substantiation
  • 2012 court decisions
  • Impact of fiscal cliff on charitable deductions
  • Reporting obligations regarding charitable trusts
  • Refresher on accounting rules pertaining to charitable gifts, including:
    • Noncash donations
    • Types of charitable trusts
    • Adhering to restrictions placed on gifts
