Affordable Care Act Forms 1094 and 1095 IRS Due Dates Fast Approaching

Employers with 50 or more full-time equivalent employees (FTEEs), otherwise known as Applicable Large Employers (ALEs), were required to provide the 2015 Form 1095-C to each full-time employee by March 31, 2016. Self-insured employers with fewer than 50 FTEEs and other insurance providers were also required to provide the 2015 Form 1095-B to individuals covered under the insurer’s health plans by March 31.

With the deadlines for providing forms to employees and covered individuals behind us, organizations need to make sure that they have filed or will file Forms 1095-C and 1095-B, as applicable, with the IRS by the applicable due dates, which are just around the corner.

Filing Deadlines for Forms 1094 and 1095

Forms 1095-C along with Form 1094-C are required to be filed with the IRS by the following due dates:

  • If paper filed, by May 31, 2016.
  • If electronically filed, by June 30, 2016. E-filing is mandatory when filing 250 or more Forms 1095-C.

Similarly, Forms 1095-B along with Form 1094-B are required to be filed with the IRS by the following due dates:

  • If paper filed, by May 31, 2016.
  • If electronically filed, by June 30, 2016. E-filing is mandatory when filing 250 or more Forms 1095-B.

Large employers and insurance providers should make sure they have already filed, or are prepared to file applicable forms with the IRS by the above due dates. Organizations that still need to file should become familiarized with Form 1094-B or 1094-C in order to make sure they have all the information necessary to comply with filing requirements.
