The excitement of a new year comes on all levels. We make New Year’s resolutions, wonder about the changes that are coming, and sometimes hope the best of the previous year carries into the next. On the other side, maybe some are just happy to see the previous year gone and look forward to a fresh start.
Sales in the auto industry were back to pre-recession levels in 2013 due in part to the rise of consumer confidence. Will 2014 be even better? Did you ever think that we would be talking about 17 million units in sales again?
The changes in market share are always something interesting to follow. New and redesigned models usually help, but they can sometimes hurt. Per consumer reports, the winner of the redesigned model of the year appears to be the new Chevrolet Impala. What will it be next year?
Some of us remember the days when the question was asked as you pulled into a gas station: “Regular or Unleaded?” Is this the year we start hearing, “Unleaded, Compressed Natural Gas or Electric?” Or will it be hydrogen? Are hybrids going to be the “norm?” As we move forward into the 21st Century, we will continue to see alternative energy concepts enter the market. We all want to know the impact it will have on the industry. Will Tesla succeed? Will the “supercharge” work at a fill-up station?
As we move forward in 2014, only time will answer these questions. As the Schneider Down’s Auto Advisors, we wish the best for our clients and hope for the best in 2014 and beyond. We are anxious for the close of the year and look forward to seeing our clients onsite over the next few weeks or months.
