When interviewing for an auditing internship, how do you make the decision between different firms? They all do relatively the same type of work. Some differences may arise between client type and firm size, but besides that, how does one make the decision of which company to start their career with when every company will probably teach you the same type of skills during the short months interning with them? The main factor that I focused on throughout my interviewing process back in October was the vibe of the culture within the company. It stems from the type of people you connect with, the conversations that go without any effort and the feeling when your nerves begin to relax during an intense interview. I found all of these things throughout my interview process in Schneider Downs and I chose to go with my gut and hope that the overall culture within the firm was just as great as it was through the beginning stages.
After one week with the company, I found that my gut served me right. Walking through the office of a new company where you hardly know anyone can be a scary thing. However, at Schneider Downs, it almost never failed that I would feel welcomed everyday. Although the work being done around me is tough and strenuous, everyone always made the effort to introduce themselves and catch up. It was a relaxed environment where everyone was working hard but also getting to know each other.
It has been an extremely rewarding experience working for Schneider Downs. Not only because of the skills I have learned, but because of the people I have met and the friendships I have made. In an industry where the work can create stress with long working hours, a welcoming and relaxed culture like the one at Schneider Downs is very impactful and it has made my experience here one I will never forget.
