Heinz Field to Host Playoffs

Although it won’t be a Pittsburgh Steelers playoff game, Heinz Field East Club is set to host the “MBA Construction Industry Evening of Excellence” on Thursday, February 25, 2016.  These construction industry playoffs showcase the finest and highest level of quality construction in Western Pennsylvania completed during 2015.  The construction projects and contractors nominated for the excellence awards represent the most distinguished and recognizable projects and contractors in our area.

Included in the 2015 nominations are a few contractors that have an opportunity to be repeat award winners in their respective categories:

In the New Construction Over $25 Million Category, PJ Dick Incorporated looks to go back to back with the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.  In 2014, PJ Dick won this category with the University of Pittsburgh Nordenberg Hall project.

In the New Construction Between $10 Million and $25 Million Category, Rycon Construction’s Allegheny Health Network Bethel Park Health + Wellness Pavilion Addition squares off against PJ Dick’s Seton Hill University Dance & Visual Arts Center.  These two contractors are no strangers when it comes down to competing for the hardware as last year, Rycon’s Cinemark Monroeville Mall & XD edged out PJ Dick’s WVU College of Physical Activities & Sports Sciences Building.

Additionally, in the Renovation Construction Under $10 Million Category, Landau Building Company looks to follow up its 2014 trophy from the Mario Lemieux Center for Blood Cancers project with its 2015 nominee in this category, the Treesdale Golf & Country Club Clubhouse Renovations.  It will be a difficult encore for Landau, as this category is one of the excellence awards’ deepest, with seven nominations.

Finally, both contractors that carried home trophies last year in the Excellence in Craftsmanship Categories, PJ Dick Incorporated for its Mellon Square Fountain Rehabilitation and Giffin Interior & Fixture, Inc.’s Mylan Inc. Corporate Headquarters, have both been nominated for 2015 projects.  PJ Dick for the East Liberty Transit Garage and Giffin for the Holy Trinity Church.

Three contractors, PJ Dick Incoporated, A. Martini & Company, and Mascaro Construction Company, LP, lead the field with four nominations, while Massaro Corporation follows closely with three.

Projects are scored on project teamwork, meeting difficult challenges, innovation, client satisfaction, construction craftsmanship, sustainable construction practices and safety by a Master Builders’ Association of Western Pennsylvania appointed jury.  Congratulations and good luck to all of the 2015 MBA Building Excellence Awards nominees and we look forward to seeing everyone at this great night for the industry!
