First Meeting: IGAF Polaris Members to Converge on Miami

By Raymond Buehler

Next week I am going to Miami for the first world meeting of IGAF Polaris, a global association of independent public accounting firms. The importance of the business opportunities at this meeting is substantiated by the keynote speaker – Barry Melancon, President and CEO of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). His presence at the meeting speaks to the importance of the growing global focus of the accounting industry.

Regarding the event, Barry said, “With the convergence of accounting standards and the true cross-border business interest for clients of all sizes, accounting firms around the world have increasing demand for international reach. I am happy to be part of the first meeting of IGAF Polaris, and I look forward to interacting with the newly formed group on issues impacting the profession.” I look forward to Barry’s participation in our first meeting, as his insight into the accounting industry is invaluable.

IGAF Polaris, which was created earlier this year by a merger of IGAF Worldwide, Polaris International, and Fidunion International, is the third-largest association of independent public accounting firms in the world. The merger provides four key benefits to Schneider Downs’ clients:

  • The merger was executed during my term as Chairman of the World Board of IGAF. Additionally, I was elected as the first Chairman of the World Board of IGAF Polaris for a two-year term, which will end in May 2012.
  • Schneider Downs serves more than 100 clients with international facilities, and IGAF Polaris member firms provide local services in those countries.
  • Schneider Downs is recognized by IGAF Polaris member firms in other regions of the world as a major player in international business. Compared to firms of similar size, Schneider Downs has an extensive international practice.
  • Schneider Downs’ international audit and tax capabilities, provided by SD Global Services, are widely recognized among IGAF Polaris firms as preeminent.

Through our firm’s leadership in the IGAF Polaris merger, participation in IGAF Polaris meetings and extensive international practice, Schneider Downs is at the forefront of international trends in the accounting industry.
