As the spring semester came to a close in April 2011, I couldn’t be happier about the summer months approaching. I was excited not only about the end of another school year, but also to begin my summer experience at Schneider Downs as an Audit Intern. Now, as the summer’s end nears and the first day of fall semester classes approaches yet again, I can look back at how my Schneider Downs experience will shape my vital senior year.
While at Schneider Downs, I got to have a small taste of what a public accounting career entails. From learning about using accounting software and how audits are performed, to getting a feel for how to communicate with clients and other staff members in a business setting, my summer internship experience has provided me with invaluable knowledge. This knowledge will not only put me a step ahead during my final year as an undergraduate, but has prepared me for what I should focus on and value during this vital year. But perhaps most importantly, this summer experience has given me the motivation to continue to do well during my last year.
As “senioritis” will surely kick in, recalling my time at Schneider Downs will reinforce my desire to work hard to achieve my ultimate goal of a career in public accounting. I might have only been with Schneider Downs for two months, but I have gained a lifetime of knowledge.
