From One Chapter to the Next

Schneider Downs InternsAs my senior year of college begins, feelings of anxiety, stress, and excitement are evoked as I contemplate my future, especially after I hang up my graduation cap and gown on May 20. Leaving a place that you’ve been able to call your second home for four years is a daunting thought. Having met amazing friends, professors and role models in the last three years at John Carroll University, I feared that I wouldn’t find that same sense of community in the work place, that is, until I began a Marketing Internship at Schneider Downs.

Since the day I walked through those big glass doors into the Schneider Downs lobby, I’ve felt like I was another member of the team, not just an intern. Sitting in on meetings, forming relationships with my coworkers, brainstorming, learning new software programs, troubleshooting and gaining some insight into the activities of a public accounting firm are just a few of the experiences that I have had the privilege of participating in. But what I can say even more confidently is that I found at Schneider Downs another sense of community, just like what I’ve experienced at John Carroll University. I was accepted as a team member and mentored by my colleagues, and my opinions were valued in a tremendously supportive learning environment.

My internship experience taught me time management, prioritization and presentation skills, all while I was getting to know talented people. My experience at Schneider Downs has led me to believe that I am capable of contributing to a professional environment and has given me the confidence that no matter where I may end up, I can find a sense of community and support in the corporate world. I may be leaving behind a memorable chapter of my life upon graduation, but I am also starting another, full of new challenges, achievements and expectations. Because of Schneider Downs, I feel well prepared and anxious to see where this new chapter takes me. I will definitely be back to visit all of my new friends! I can’t thank them enough for showing me that the professional world might not be so scary.
