The lack of a dependable workforce has often been cited by manufacturers as negatively impacting their business. Based on a recent study, this may be especially true in Pennsylvania.
Recently, the Pennsylvania Manufacturer’s Association released the results of its survey which focused on Companies’ experience with drug testing and its impact on their workforce. The survey included 200 manufacturing executives.
The survey found that nearly one-third of applicants for jobs in the manufacturing sector either failed a drug test or refused to take a drug test. When you take into consideration these survey results, along with an already aging workforce, it should come as no surprise that there are 8,000 unfilled manufacturing jobs in Pennsylvania.
There is some positive news that can be found in the survey. Employers report losing fewer employees to random drug testing than to drug testing in the hiring process.
