OUR THOUGHTS ON:

Network. Connect. Climb. Advance.

Marketing

By Cheryl Daniels

Creating opportunities for women professionals to exchange ways to network and grow with, and for, one another.

That is the mission of the W.I.N. (Women in the Neighborhood) professional women’s initiative. W.I.N. is a networking forum established by the women professionals of Schneider Downs, Huntington National Bank, and Porter Wright Morris & Arthur, LLP, each of which has offices located in the Huntington Building in downtown Columbus. The W.I.N. group meets quarterly to connect with the professionals across each office and to identify ways in which we may help one another advance professionally and personally. The meetings provide a comfortable atmosphere to network with familiar faces and become acquainted with influential women in the Central Ohio community.

Recently, the W.I.N. fall event was held at the historic Griswold Building in downtown Columbus - home of the YWCA Columbus, an organization whose mission is to eliminate racism and empower women. Cynthia Lazarus, president and CEO, spoke on the programs that the YWCA offers to women in Central Ohio, and gave a tour of the building. It was both a humbling and eye-opening experience for the group.

The YWCA tour reinforced the mission of the W.I.N. group. After the tour, the W.I.N. professionals gathered to discuss the importance of volunteer efforts and ideas for how we can work together to help out in the community. A common consensus seemed to be that in order to climb professionally, you must have a deep passion for the communities in which you live, work and play. You have to have a sincere interest in volunteer and community support efforts, and the board(s) you’re serving on in order to make an impact.

The W.I.N. fall event at the YWCA reminded all of us that it’s important to be a steward of your community. Assess your interests, and then find out how those interests may be applied to community support efforts. So, if you haven’t already, find your passion and make it work for the community and for you; the rest is easy.
