The United Way of Allegheny County has officially launched their new and exciting initiative, fitUnited, and Schneider Downs is proud to be a part of it!
The United Way held an official launch event on October 3, 2012 at the Peterson Events Center on the University of Pittsburgh’s campus. Schneider Downs, along with 30+ other early adopter companies, were in attendance to pledge support of this important initiative.
Bob Nelkin, President and Chief Professional Officer of the United Way of Allegheny County, kicked off the event and introduced two special speakers; Jamie Dixon, University of Pittsburgh Men’s Basketball Coach, who will serve as Chair and Honorary Spokesman for fitUnited Pittsburgh; and Brooks Broadhurst, Sr. VP of Food and Beverage, Eat’n Park Hospitality Group, who will serve as Chair of fitUnited Pittsburgh. All three stressed the importance of the fitUnited initiative, community involvement and presence.
What is fitUnited you may ask? What is their goal? How can I help? The American Public Health Association reported that US childhood obesity rates have more than tripled in the past three decades. FitUnited’s goal is to thwart a preventable condition and engage the members of the community of Allegheny County to lead our youth to fitness, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle with leadership through our very own actions.
FitUnited Pittsburgh “is a collaborative community initiative that links organizations, experts and neighborhood programs to bring nutrition and physical activity best practices to life in Allegheny County.” Schneider Downs is among the Early Adopter population of the fitUnited initiative and we have pledged to make a difference for our youth and their future. FitUnited’s goal is to have more than 100 companies in Allegheny County pledge to a long-term commitment to children’s health within the next 100 days. Does your organization want to be a part of this initiative or learn more about it? We encourage you to join us. Contact Veronica Bucci with any questions.
Get fit, live United!
