Postcard from Schneider Downs' Internal Audit Team Meeting and Training

Risk Advisory/Internal Audit

By Heather Haemer

On August 23 and 24, 2010, Schneider Downs’ Internal Audit and Risk Advisory Services (IARAS) professionals held their annual team meeting and training. The event’s training topics targeted further development of the IARAS team’s technical, team-building, marketing and client service skills.

Technical training topics included Information Technology General Controls/COBIT 4.1; Information Security Compliance; Performance Auditing; Fraud Awareness; IIA Standards; and an Accounting and Technical Update. Training also included coverage of various accounting and auditing, marketing and industry research tools available to Schneider Downs professionals.

In addition to providing the IARAS professionals with valuable continuing professional education credits, the event included various team-building activities. The day-one activity included a round of Jeopardy that tested the IARAS team’s knowledge of the IARAS practice, their team members and the firm. The day-two activity required teams to market an item from “around the house” and face “the Donald” in IARAS’s version of Celebrity Apprentice.

While technical training topics were the primary focus of the annual team meeting and training, it also provided the opportunity for the IARAS team members to share their diverse experiences and ideas, so that we can continue to provide our insight, innovation and experience in delivering services to our clients.
