After more than five years without a chairperson, the IPT (Institute for Professionals in Taxation) Western Pennsylvania Local Luncheon Group has been revived. Spearheaded by Jennifer Koehler from Schneider Downs and her newly formed committee, the group reunited on November 7 at the Rivers Club in Downtown Pittsburgh. The attendance was outstanding, with more than 30 industry and tax professionals reconnecting and meeting new members.
The featured speaker, Jerrold F. Janata, Esq., is a founding partner of Janata, Lacap & Associates, P.C., with more than 45 years of extensive experience in real property tax litigation and other areas of practice in both New York and Pennsylvania. His ethics presentation titled “Why Do Good People Make Bad Decisions?” captivated the attendees with its entertaining video shorts that left a lasting impression on historically recorded ethical blunders.
The main focus of the IPT luncheon group is to provide educational, informational and networking opportunities for local industry and tax professionals. The group meets on a quarterly basis and provides a forum to hear from experts in areas such as income tax, property tax, sales tax and ethics. The next local luncheon is planned for February 2014 and will feature a presentation on Marcellus Shale. Both IPT members and nonmembers are welcome.
