OUR THOUGHTS ON:

Tips to Pass the CPA Exam for Recent College Graduates

Schneider Downs

By Victoria Huber

Before my first day at Schneider Downs, my responsibilities were limited. I had an abundance of free time, and the only assignment I had was to study for the CPA exam. Adjusting to a regular 9-to-5 workday came pretty easy; however, I quickly learned that the responsibility of studying for the CPA exam compounded with a 40+ hour workweek requires tremendous time management and self-discipline. A solution that worked for your colleagues to pass the exam on their first attempt might not necessarily work for you. Fortunately, there are countless study programs available to complement each candidate, and I encourage you to research your options. It is important to find study materials and establish a schedule in order to maintain a healthy balance between work, study and life. This may mean squeezing in a few hours of study time before work or weekend study marathons. Regardless of your method, this process requires sacrifices.

Earning a passing score for each of the four sections is dependent on the efforts you put forth as a student. The time and means necessary to learn and apply the information are different for every candidate. As long as you commit to your studies and stick to your schedule, you will successfully earn your CPA license. This is a huge undertaking that requires a wholehearted commitment, but the return on the investment of time is invaluable to your future business career.
