The People of Schneider Downs

When I first started working at Schneider Downs, I was nervous to work with so many different people who learned and taught differently from me. I only had one job throughout high school and college, but it was with my mother’s coffee business. Essentially, she had to put up with me. The internship was a new experience for me, and I had no idea what to expect. After a few days of orientation, I began work with my clients.

I typically have a clear plan when entering new situations. Yet, meeting my first client was entirely brand new to me. I was forced to trust my GPS as I drove to my client. Though the client was only 20 minutes away, I left an hour early to avoid being late. I fortunately found the client’s building, but I had no idea where to park. Was I a visitor or an employee? I texted the cell phone number that the in-charge had given me. He responded with directions within a few minutes, but eventually had to call me; I parked on the wrong side of the building. To say I felt stupid was an understatement. The in-charge was understanding and thought nothing of my mistake. I appreciated everyone’s patience as I learned the procedures of beginning work at a new client. I dreaded bothering people with my questions, but everyone seemed happy to answer.

Fast-forward a couple weeks. I still arrived early to meet clients, but became confident in my ability to find the client and parking area. I was no longer scared to talk to clients. In fact, I began to love meeting new people in the firm and elsewhere. Working at Schneider Downs was an incredible experience. It has taught me confidence inside and outside the workplace, as well as working as a team with new people each week.
