More than Just a Team

Heading into my junior year at Clarion University, I knew that I would need to obtain an internship in public accounting to get a leg up on the competition. The problem was, the recruiting process did not come very easy to me. As a football player in college, I was forced to miss many networking and recruiting activities due to practices or games. Feeling left behind, I was extremely fortunate enough to land an interview with Schneider Downs. I knew that this was my opportunity, and I had to make the most of it. After two separate interviews, I was overjoyed to learn that I had received an offer to join Schneider Downs as a summer intern.

To say I was a bit nervous the first day of work would be quite the understatement. I was unsure of what to expect out in the field of public accounting, and if my skills that I had attained through college would translate to the real world. Luckily enough, the staff I was able to work with did everything in their power to make sure I was doing alright. Slowly but surely, I felt like I was gaining a much better understanding of how to accomplish each task. I can’t say enough about how willing everyone I’ve been able to work with was with helping me.  I was treated as a member of the staff from day one.

Overall, as my internship comes to a close, I can honestly say over the eight-week internship that I gained invaluable experience that I know will be advantageous as my career progresses. The internship seemed to really fly by, as I was traveling to a different client every week. Being exposed to so many different clients and learning how each industry operates was a great learning tool. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything, and feel much more confident as I get ready to graduate from college this year and head on to the “real world.”
