Top New Features in Business Central 2023 Release Wave 2

We’re excited about the next release of Dynamics 365 Business Central. There are many new features that make the platform easier to use and help organizations drive scale. We reviewed the new features list, and here are some of the most impactful new features for mid-size businesses.

Additional Warehouse Handling Options

Business Central has long had a robust inventory management feature set. In this release, it gets even more robust with additional handling options on the following transactions:

  • Production consumption
  • Production output
  • Assembly consumption
  • Job consumption

Adding an inventory put-away step on the production output screen gives users greater control over when a finished good is available for sale to customers. This also creates another option for developers to extend QA functionality.

The job consumption step also makes the system more usable in an engineer-to-order environment where parts are specific to each job and move within a warehouse before the job is complete or the inventory is consumed in the system.

Better Financial Consolidation & Intercompany Tools

Previously consolidating Business Central data across environments required handling files and manual effort. With the new release, users can automate the process of consolidating financial data across multiple environments. This release also includes functionality to make intercompany journal entries across environments.

These features will benefit any company using multiple localizations of Business Central that must manually perform month-end consolidations.

Edit in Excel Added to More Pages

Many Improvements in Inventory and Warehousing

  • Better experience when converting a catalog item to actual items.
  • Receive more items than ordered on an inventory put-away document (previously had to create a new PO to receive against).
  • Scan barcodes in the mobile app for iOS and Android.

Better Visibility into Inventory Availability

A new screen has been added called Reservation Worksheet where users can reserve and allocate incoming goods in bulk. Additionally, a new “Reserved from Stock” field has been added to the Sales Order Statistics page and Sales Order Line fact box to give users a quick insight into whether the order is ready to ship.

Copilot has Entered the Bank Rec Process

The existing transaction matching feature on the bank rec screen has been enhanced with AI. Overall matching improvements are coupled with a natural language explanation of any proposed matches.
