International Fraud Awareness Week 2022

Schneider Downs is once again proud to support the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) as it celebrates International Fraud Awareness Week.

We have a long and established role in the fraud investigation and awareness field, through the numerous investigations we’ve performed over the years and our sponsorship of the annual Fraud and Corruption Awareness Seminar.

Our Consulting group includes several Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE), and I serve as the president of the Greater Pittsburgh chapter of the ACFE.

Our theme for this year is the Fraud Triangle, the graphical representation of a theory developed by Donald Cressey in the 1950s. Cressey was a criminologist and is widely regarded as a pioneer in the study of white-collar crime, along with his teacher and co-author Edwin Sutherland. The Fraud Triangle includes three elements found in most instances of fraud:

  • Real or perceived financial pressure that the perpetrator is experiencing
  • Rationalization that their violation of trust is acceptable or justified
  • The opportunity to carry out the act

While the elements of the Fraud Triangle are found in essentially every instance of fraud, some CFEs in our group have written Our Thoughts On articles in recognition of Fraud Week that highlight one particular aspect. Please see the following links for the articles:

We may only focus on Fraud Week once per year in this way, but our professionals educate, assist and prepare clients throughout the year with their unique fraud concerns.

Check out our Schneider Downs Consulting LinkedIn page throughout the week for additional information from the ACFE. If you have questions or concerns about fraud in your organization, contact Tom Pratt at [email protected] or Brian Webster at [email protected].

About International Fraud Awareness Week

International Fraud Awareness Week, or Fraud Week, was established by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) in 2000 as a dedicated time to raise awareness about fraud. The week-long campaign encourages business leaders and employees to proactively take steps to minimize the impact of fraud by promoting anti-fraud awareness and education.
